Products Description

JSH Cable SWA Armoured Power Cable is a heavy-duty, fixed-installation power cable engineered for reliable power distribution in industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects. It features a multi-layer construction optimized for mechanical protection, electrical safety, and long-term durability in harsh environments.

Core Construction (from inside out)

Conductor: Class 2 plain stranded copper (BS EN 60228) – flexible, high conductivity, low power loss.

XLPE Insulation: Cross-linked polyethylene provides excellent dielectric strength, thermal stability (90°C continuous), and resistance to moisture, chemicals, and aging.

Bedding: PVC inner sheath separates insulation from armour, providing a smooth layer and electrical barrier.

Steel Wire Armour (SWA): Galvanized steel wires helically applied deliver superior mechanical protection against impact, crushing, direct burial stress, and rodent damage.

Outer Sheath: Black /Orange PVC (FR-PVC optional) offers UV, oil, and weather resistance, ensuring long-term integrity in outdoor and industrial environments.

FAQ

product-470-408

01.What does SWA stand for?

SWA = Steel Wire Armour – a layer of galvanized steel wires applied over the insulated cores to provide mechanical protection for direct burial and harsh environments..

02.Can SWA cable be buried directly in the ground?

Yes. The SWA layer and PVC sheath make it suitable for direct burial without additional conduit. It resists soil moisture, crushing, and rodent damage.

03.What is the maximum operating temperature?

Continuous conductor temperature: 90°C. Short-circuit (≤5s): 250°C. Installation temperature: minimum -25°C.

04.What is the difference between SWA and STA (Steel Tape Armour)?

SWA (Steel Wire) provides higher impact/rodent resistance (ideal for direct burial). STA (Steel Tape) offers better radial crushing resistance (used for internal/duct applications).

05.Is SWA armour suitable for earthing (CPC)?

Yes, under BS 7671 (UK regulations), the galvanized steel armour can be used as the Circuit Protective Conductor (earth) for fixed installations, provided proper termination and cross-sectional area are maintained.
